It is handed down among the sadhus and yogis of India
that Buddha was brought forth by a Virgin from her side.

Why do people from so-called developed countries turn to the East when external things fail to answer their craving for Ultimate Truth? Why do seekers of Ultimate Truth think the East is the answer? Parts of the East may be considered behind in terms of materialistic possessions. However the East is rich in terms of spiritual possessions. The East is a culmination of the energy of countless enlightened masters.
Mankind has been blessed by human-divine masters born in the East who lived miraculous lives among mere mortals. What is unique and interesting about their beginnings is that there was something outstanding about their conception, birth or events immediately following birth.
Reports of miraculous conception appear throughout the history of India, China and Tibet. Buddha's birth was miraculous. And Krishna, the great spiritual master of India, had a virgin birth dating back to over 5000 years ago. In Tibet mystical events surround the conception of spiritual leaders such as the Dalai Lamas and the Karmapas. While in China the birth of inner world geniuses, such as Lao-Tze, were heralded by an extraordinary experience.
India alone has been the birthplace of many enlightened masters. India can be likened to the spiritual incubator of the world. Osho puts it this way, "India is not just a geography or history. It is not only a nation, a country, a mere piece of land. It is something more: it is a metaphor, poetry, something invisible but very tangible. It is vibrating with certain energy fields that no other country can claim."
Many enlightened masters had their roots in India: Krishna, Buddha, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Vivekananda, Yogananda, Sarada Devi, Ramana Maharshi, Sai Baba, Kabir and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to name just a few. Besides that, thousands of enlightened masters sit in remote corners of India who are remain unknown to common people.
All this illustrates the wide diffusion of miraculous conception, as well as its antiquity. The subject is obscure and worthy of consideration. Perhaps if we understood more about the uniqueness of this process, couples desiring gifted children could increase the possibility of having an exceptional child.
Swami Vivekananda explains the unique status of conception in the East when he said, "My mother fasted and prayed for years and years so that I should be born. Our great lawgiver Manu gave us the following definition of an Aryan: 'He is an Aryan who is born through prayer.' The child must be prayed for. Those children that come with curses, that slip into the world just in a moment of inadvertence, because that could not be prevented, what can you expect of such progeny?"

Immaculate conception represents the highest achievement of womanhood. It signifies an attainment so wondrously mysterious and sacredly beautiful. Virginity is a state of consciousness. It is attained though dedication to attract an Ego from the heavenly worlds without awakening the fires of passion.
